Cranio-Sacral Therapy:
Craniosacral Therapy is used to detect and correct imbalances
in the cranio-sacral system, which may be the cause of sensory,
motor or neurological dysfunction. The Craniosacral system consists
of the membranes and the cerebrospinal fluid that surround and
protect the brain and spinal cord .It extends from the bones of
the skull, face and mouth – which make up the cranium – down to
the sacrum, or tailbone area.
The therapy has been successfully used to treat headaches, neck
and back pain, TMJ, chronic fatigue, motor coordination difficulties,
eye problems and central nervous system disorders.
The toll exacted on a body from an accident, disease, stressful
situation, or emotionally devastating experience can extend far
beyond the obvious physical effects. Energy that accompanies a
trauma can be retained, suppressed, and isolated within the body
by the non-conscious long after the problem seems to be healed
– in essence, forming "energy cysts".
This is where the process of Somato Emotional Release can intervene.
A result of meaningful, intentioned touch, Somato Emotional Release
allows for the identification and removal of energy cysts along
with their associated emotions.
Craniosacral Therapy for Mothers and Babies
A woman experiences many changes in her body and in her relationships
during her pregnancy, childbirth and immediately after giving
birth. CST effectively addresses any concerns which may arise
during this emotional time and provides a safe neutral space where
healing can take place.
It can also have a positive effect on the psychological, physiological
and spiritual well being as mum adapts to the demands of pregnancy
and new motherhood. Studies have shown that mothers who receive
gentle complementary therapies during their pregnancy are better
able to provide a loving touch to their new-born infants.
The sessions are tailored to meet the mother's needs for physical,
verbal and energetic support and her requirements for comfort
and modesty. CST does not require disrobing .
Pre Natal CST Session
A pre natal CST session is a special time for a mother to get
in touch with her changing body and growing baby. It is designed
melt away the daily effects of stress and pressure from the mum-to-be
and this will help to restore energy and balance to the physical
body.
During this phase of the pregnancy it is important to gently
improve the mobility and alignment in the mother's pelvis so as
the ever growing baby can move more easily and assume an ideal
position for the birthing process.
Post Natal CST Session
A post natal CST session will focus on the structural
realignment of the pelvis and the rehabilitation of muscles which
may have been weakened or over-worker during the pregnancy. It
can greatly improve the healing process for mothers who have had
cesarean births also. It is important for a new mother to be nurtured
immediately after her birth process.
At this point attention shifts away from her and onto her infant
and as most of her energy is spent on caring for her new baby
she may start to feel tired and neglected. Therefore it is beneficial
to the whole family when a new mother receives relaxation and
attention just for herself.
CST during the Childbearing
year can help
- Relieve cramping
- Address back pain
- Treat sciatic and nerve pain
- Establish optimal fetal position
- Release pelvic and groin pain
- Promote recovery from Cesarean Births
Experiencing a session:
How a session is performed.
A CranioSacral Therapy session usually takes place in a quiet,
private setting. We recommend that clients wear loose, comfortable
clothing. Clients remain fully clothed, though most choose to
remove their shoes. The session is performed with the client reclining
on a massage or treatment table while the practitioner stands
or sits, positioned at various times throughout the session at
the client's head, middle torso or feet.
What you may experience during a session.
Experiences during a CST session are as individual as the clients
and practitioners themselves. They also may differ from session
to session. At times, a client may deeply relax or even fall asleep;
at other times, he or she may talk a great deal, recalling hidden
memories or expressing emotions. Some will remain still during
the entire session, hardly noticing the practitioner's evaluation
and treatment, while others will experience sensations within
the body as the evaluation process is carried out.
At various times throughout the session, the practitioner will
support a client's limbs and spine while facilitating release
of accumulated tension. This process is called energy cyst release
or tissue release. During this release, the client might recall
circumstances surrounding a past shock, trauma or injury. Releasing
and re-experiencing past hurts assists the body in reversing dysfunction
and restoring the previous level of mobility.
What you may experience following a session
Just as individuals experience CST sessions differently, the
immediate results can be diverse as well. This relaxed state may
cause some to sleep for many hours after a session. Others may
experience an increase in energy. Reduction of pain or an increase
in function may occur immediately after the session, or it may
develop gradually over the next few days. Since CST helps the
body resume its natural healing processes, it isn't unusual for
improvement to continue weeks after the session. For some there
may be a reorganisation phase as the body adapts to the release
of previously held patterns.
